In order to build an independent team that can think for themselves, it is best to motivate through acknowledgement rather than the “stick” method. Trying to change someone’s actions through guilt and shame is not sustainable because they would only change when you there to “beat them with a stick”. Instead, give them a reason to want to change on their own. Often times, this is as simple as acknowledging them for what they’ve done well.
